At 10.35 we took the bus to Llao Llao (jjow jjow). It was only a little over an hour, and we were lucky enough to get seats pretty early on. When people queued up at the stop it was already full, and with the addition of our line packed with standers.
The trail started at the green Jesus statue and was very pleasant, going downhill, shady and verdant. It was a couple of hours to the first beach and that was crowded so we walked on. Eventually we had to go about a kilometer on the road in order to reach the second part of the trail, the part leading to the Lago Escondido. The lake was gorgeous and sunny, and we stayed in the sun for a while and ate sandwiches (tomatoes cut with a plastic fork will be the next big thing--it gives them serraded sides and prevents them from sliding of the sandwich). It was a few more hours back to the Llao Llao hotel where we planned to get refreshments but despite the deficiencies of our map we managed to find our way. Stupidly the trail climbed steeply for a while then descended gradually the rest of the way, but the view over the multi-colored mountain-surrounded lakes was beautiful.
The last hill to the hotel was torturous, but we stopped in the hotel for drinks and to wait for the bus back to Bariloche. Though fancy the lodge was stuffy and better suited to winter-time skiers than summer hikers.
Bus 20 came on time, but parked away from the small group of waiting people for maybe 15 minutes, not really sure why. I slept on the way back home and we stopped for ice-cream again. I would recommend the Tramontana if you ever come across it but couldn't tell what it is.
After two 14-ish kilometer hikes we think that we might take tomorrow off. Right now that sounds really good.
